2013 Election in Bacolod City Heats Up

Thirty three political hopefuls for the 2013 elections have already filed their certificates of candidacy (COC)as of Tuesday, second day of the five-day filing.Fourteen are from the province of Negros Occidental and 19 are from Bacolod City.

Bacolod candidates of the Nationalist People’s Coalition-Grupo Progreso trooped to the Comelec in full force to file their COCs led by incumbent Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who will be running for Congress.(

The group went on a mass, at 2 p.m., at the San Sebastian Cathedral before proceeding to the Comelec office, a walking distance from the church.)

The party’s slate include vice mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson for mayor; third-termer Councilor and Bacolod City Water District Director Greg Gasataya, for the vice mayor.

The 12 bets for the Sangguniang Panlungsod are incumbent Councilors Em Legaspi-Ang, Caesar Distrito, Carlos Jose Lopez, Mona Dia Jardin, and Roberto Rojas; former councilor Alex Paglumotan, former Central Negros Electric Cooperative president Ed Guillem, businessmen Andy Leonardia, Chito Jalandoni, Bart Orola, and Migs Estrella, and Israel Salanga, a youth leader.

For the province of Negros Occidental, only the Nationalist People’s Coalition party filed on Monday, but not the entire ticket.
