Thousands of Zamboangueños on Tuesday joined the “13th Pink October Walk”, a public awareness campaign on breast cancer prevention.
As early as 7 a.m. participants in pink shirts, mostly women, assembled at N.S. Valderrosa Street, fronting City Hall, for the march which passed through the main thoroughfares to the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sport Complex where a commemorative program was held.
In his message, Mayor Celso Lobregat said the “Pink October” is one program of his administration and that of his late mother fondly which shows concern for the welfare of women.
The Pink October Walk started in 1999 during the incumbency of the late Mayor Maria Clara L. Lobregat and it was initiated by the Gender and Development (GAD) in coordination with the city government and the Local Council of Women and other non-government organizations.
